Welcome to My tap-tastic world of Leta's Tap Styles! *
not all dancers are “Normal”!
My name is Leta. I’m autistic, severely dyslexic, have an audio processing disorder, have a bad right hip, and I love to dance. Tap dance is my favorite.
My dance teachers have always claim they like me, but they are used to dealing with neurotypical dancers. They don’t know how to deal with dancers who are a little quirky. Especially dancers who stim by tap dancing. (I don’t know I’m tapping. They say stimming is subconcious for a reason.) A few have even suggested that my autism means I am not worth teaching.
My mentors have always told me I can soar high. They have also told me that if there isn’t a space for me, I should just make one. (With them telling the entire world about it, of course.)
So, that’s what I’m doing. My mom and I have a podcast all about my life as an autistic dancer. I started a dance studio for dancers like me, Autistic Wings Dance Company. (Wings are my favorite tap step.) We interview amazing people from all around the world. Autistic people like me. Experts in autism and dyslexia. And more.
